Work out the portion size for each member of your travelling group and measure out these amounts. For example, half a cup of muesli and half a cup of milk per day per adult. No use carrying way too much. But you don't want to run out of food in a place where re-stocking is not an option.
Most of my travelling has been in Western Australia where road houses in remote areas and even many of the smaller country towns have limited grocery options and often higher prices. Count on restocking bulky things you'll run out of - bread, crackers, some fruit and veg, cheese.
